April is Stress Awareness Month – but let’s be honest, most of us are aware of our stress all year round! The truth is, stress is a normal part of life. It’s our body’s natural response to pressure, change, or perceived danger – and sometimes, it can even help us. Stress gives us energy to face challenges, whether it’s a big presentation or a tricky decision.
But when stress builds up or sticks around too long, it can take a toll. We might feel constantly on edge, stuck, numb, or overwhelmed. That’s when stress stops being helpful – and starts getting in the way of how we want to live.
At Abacus Care & Support, we understand how life’s challenges – including trauma, health issues, and daily pressures – can affect wellbeing. That’s why a big part of our role as care providers is supporting people to cope and recover from stress.
Yes, stress recovery is absolutely possible.
Our brains and bodies are built to adapt, and there are ways to come back to regulation. This might look different for everyone – maybe it’s talking to someone, going for a walk, practicing mindfulness, or just slowing things down. Some tools we can use ourselves, and sometimes we need a little support from others.
If you’re not sure where to start, the Stress Management Society has some great tips and resources. And remember – what works for one person might not work for another, so be kind to yourself as you figure it out.
Marking Stress Awareness Month is a reminder to us to say a big thank you to our staff. We’re proud of how our teams show up every day with compassion and resilience. Taking care of others starts with taking care of ourselves – and we’re committed to making sure our teams feel supported too.
Stress is part of life. With the right tools and support, we can cope and recover from stress – and get back to enjoying a fulfilling live that aligns with our values.
